ADDING AN ASSOCIATE – I get many requests from doctors for advice on how to bring an associate into their practice. The doctor feels that adding an associate will solve the problems of “being too busy” and will also “make me some money.” On careful analysis, I find that many of these practices don’t need an associate to solve their problems. Greater efficiency, better scheduling techniques and very often, modification of the office space, will greatly reduce the patient backlog and generate big profits. Adding an associate is a scary prospect. All the necessary criteria must be there: patient volume, sufficient staff, proper physical facility, just to name a few.
